Warning - Indoor Tanning is Not Safe

Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation during indoor tanning not only causes higher cancer rates - it can lead to eye damage. UV rays from both natural sunlight and from indoor artificial UV rays can damage the surface tissues (i.e., cornea) and the internal structures (i.e., lens and retina) of the eye.

Tanning beds can produce ultraviolet (UV) radiation levels up to 100 times what you would get from the sun! Nearly every professional health organization has produced position statements to raise public awareness about the dangers of indoor tanning. Young women are at highest risk of using indoor tanning beds.

  • "The volunteers & doctors who were at our SightFest were incredible. Everyone was professional, kind & attentive. In our school district, there were over 100 students examined, 22 were referred for follow-up care and 81 students received glasses. It was one of the most worthwhile projects we have ever done.”
