Make Eye Health a New Year's Resolution!

Start 2019 on the right note by learning about glaucoma and about what you do to reduce your risk of developing this disease! This January, National Glaucoma Awareness Month, Friends for Sight wants to encourage Utah residents to have a comprehensive dilated eye exam before the age of 40, which can help catch glaucoma and other diseases early.

Glaucoma can cause blindness Glaucoma is a leading cause of preventable blindness. In the next 25 years the number of individuals affected by glaucoma in the U.S. is expected to reach 6 million.

Glaucoma can strike anyone But some people are at higher risk than others, such as older adults, African American and Hispanic populations, diabetics, and people with a family history of glaucoma.

Glaucoma can be silent Many of the 3.5 million Americans that have glaucoma are unaware they have the disease, since visual loss does not happen until the disease is advanced.
